We bought this fridge as a replacement using only online photos to make our choice. Overall, I am happy with the fridge. I hadn't realized the main freezer drawer was a basket, thought it was more solid. The crisper drawers are great, so far. The large deli drawer seems flimsy and doesn't slide very well, especially while closing. We are still sorting out where to put things, but it's nice that fridge things aren't freezing anymore. (That was the issue with our old fridge.)

It keeps things cold, but it makes a lot of noise.
The door has a high initial resistance, which bothers my wife. You have to give it a good tug to open it. Sometimes it moves towards you instead of opening.
It is not very attractive. Kind of ugly, actually. But it works...so far.
I just wish I hadn't paid $2000 for a fridge. A cheaper one would probably be equivalent.

i've had this slightly over a month and am very pleased so far- it looks great, love that one can buy it with the handle left or right so there are no plugs. lighting great. didn't want the whole water ice thing so great that it came without! it is on the small side and i'm trying to get creative with the shelving etc. no complaints.

Like most people who get to this point, we chose this fridge because we were limited in space available in our kitchen. We had a previous version of this fridge and it lasted about 10 years (although not without replacing the circuit board last year). When the compressor went this year, we looked around and thought the updated model was the best choice.
However, within 2 weeks (!) of using the fridge, the circuit board failed, causing the refrigerator compartment to stop cooling. We dealt with Kitchen Aid directly (as requested by the store we bought the fridge from) and they replaced it. Now, after another 3 weeks, the fridge is warming up again, presumably with the same issue (since the symptoms are the same). We are dealing again with Kitchen Aid who take at least 1 week to schedule a repair call and then another week to get the parts and return. This is too long to be without a fridge for a family of five.
Because of the shoddy quality of parts and the length of time to get things repaired (which they aren't as of yet), I would stay away from this model, and perhaps from Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid (since they are the same company).
I welcome Kitchen Aid to contact me and make this right with a new fridge.
Buyer beware.

I bought this over a month ago. It is living up to most expectations. It should have come with an ice cube tray & some kind of container to hold the ice cubes in. Isn't that a no brainer? I had to scavenge the ones from my old refrigerator. Also came with a part that was not described in the manual. It is a curved in nature and is made out of thin metal rods. It looks like it suspends from a shelf...maybe holds 2 cans of pop end to end. If that is the purpose it is not very practical. Otherwise the fridge looks great!!

We are disappointed in the small vegetable and fruit storage drawers. Also the shelf arrangement isn't the best. A gallon jug will not fit in the door bins. The freezer seems to have less space then our old one which was a top freezer. Much of it is taken up by the ice bin and the ice maker is difficult to turn on and off.

As a basic fridge it's fine and the handle finishes are great. The freezer space could be segmented more efficiently for enhanced space and the vegetable draws in the fridge fall out too easily. I don't regret the purchase at all.

I purchased this model in august 2018, because our Amana Fridge stopped functioning after 14 years. The drawers in the kitchenaid fridge were etiquetted as Amana, and they looked very cheap and dysfunctional from the begining. I thought that with time the drawers rolling in/out would adjust, but it seems to be getting even worst even after oiling the rails. The border of the drawers are bristled as shown in the picture after only 3 months!
It goes without saying that if you have to swear everytime you open a drawer, or need to use two hands to open them straight, it really doesn't matter what the brand is.
Given the price and brand name, I would have expected better from Kitchenaid.
My cleaning lady says that she got a samsung for a third of the price and the drawers are not at all like this.

This replaced a side by side and it it suits us much better. Like the bottom drawer pullout freezer. Items are easier to organize. Refrigerator portion has plenty of shelving. There is a bit of snow excess side play in the full width drawer.

The evaporator line was blocked by a plug (bright red) that was dropped into it during the manufacturing process. The freezer compartment filled with ice. When it melted during the defrost cycle water flowed onto the floor. We had six lakes of water on our kitchen floor before it was repaired. This never should have happened.

As happy as my parents were about the new KA range, they were disappointed and underwhelmed by the refrigerator. Door handle that keeps coming loose, interior layout that doesn't suit their needs for multiple gallons of liquids (they removed a shelf in the refrigerator), complaints about needing to pull open the freezer door at exactly the right point or else it just stays closed...the list goes on I'm sad to say.
My father was especially disappointed that this refrigerator complexity is low and should not be difficult to make. "They should get the basics right," he said, "they've been making these for years."
My father and mother think it's a pretty fridge but it fails functionally. I pressed my father for an answer about an accurate rating and he said 2.5, but I pressed further and he said "no way" to a 3 so he said a 2/5.

Very cheaply designed refrigerator. Flimsy shelves, brackets under shelves prohibit storage. Door accessories are too shallow to hold bottles and they fall over and out if you open the door too quickly. Plastic on plastic sticks on drawers. I would never have chosen this refrigerator for my home!! It was a cheap addition to a remodeled home I bought. I will soon be replacing it.

Quite disappointed when the refrigerator arrived. I thought I purchased a stainless steel fridge. It is "stainless steel LIKE" -- whatever that is. The crisper drawers pull right out unless you deliberately pull slowly and carefully until they catch. You can't even put an opened bottle of wine with a cork in it on the top shelf. They placed this hump of a control panel smack dab in the middle of the top of the fridge making it impossible to place anything tall unless you actually take out a shelf. I wasn't pleased with the quality of Kitchen Aid on this product. Very expensive too!

I am a new owner of a KRBL 109ess - installed a week ago. I have noticed a high pitch sound emanating from the refrigerator at times throughout the day and night. A KitchenAid customer support representative explained to me that new refrigerators have a smaller compressor that ensures the appliances are more energy efficient. The cabinet liner of the fridge also has been changed to ensure the unit operates more efficiently. This new liner is not as sound proof as previous models and it can cause a high pitch sound, which is a normal operational sound. I conducted rather extensive research prior to purchasing this model and did not find any not evidence of this fact...wish I knew it in advance as the high pitch noise is irritating. Also, the refrigerator does not come with any freezer accessories (not even ice cube trays.) According to the Refrigerator Assembly Instructions that were delivered with my unit, which featured six freezer accessories, I should have received some or all of these features. KitchenAid should update this flyer (literature number #13028601VKVF) as it is misleading to consumers.

I bought this to fit into a small kitchen in a house built in 1927. I love the design that fits nicely into the style of the home and that companies still make smaller refrigerators. At times, it is a little loud -- I am surprised considering it's a new appliance, but was told by the saleman that that's part of the new energy saving features. Overall, it has great space, and I like I can move the shelves around to fit my preferences.

I am a single woman who lives in a condo. I needed a fridge/freezer to fit into a smaller space. It is pretty, quiet and I love the lighting inside. You can see everything due to how bright it is and all the drawers are clear plastic so you can see everything at a glance quickly.

I was a little worried buying this fridge without seeing it in person but I am so glad that I did. It not only looks great in the kitchen (it's soooo pretty!) but it so functional. Love that all of the shelves can be customized and the crispers keep my veggies fresher for longer than my old fridge did. Overall very happy with this fridge. The only small issue is that the motor is a little louder than my old fridge but didn't take long to get used to.

It lookis great and I love the handles. The sides are a gray enamel that is much easier to keep clean and streak-free. The fridge is a little smaller that I had anticipated and wish it were bigger. The shelves in the door are spacious.

This fridge was a warranty replacement for a Whirlpool, similar size. The finishing details are nicer, but when the fridge begins to run there is a clunking, rattling noise. Disappointed by this, as it was to have been a better model than the whirlpool.
